Our dear mother Patricia (Pat) Reilly Exner sadly passed away on May 3rd, at the age of 91 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most. An educator by profession, she touched the lives of hundreds of children in her 30 years of teaching in New York, Chicago and at Colonial Hills Elementary in Worthington.
Mom made lifelong friends wherever she went. Up until last year she still maintained contact with a close friend she met in Kindergarten. She had the natural ability to connect people. Oldest son Jay remembers that she was the one that connected him with his first 3 jobs. There were frequently 15 or more people at our house for Sunday dinner.
Mom was a striver. Despite struggling early on in school she went on to become the first in her family to go to College, graduating from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY in 1955. She then completed most of a Masters degree while working full time and raising a family.
She was preceded in death by her husbands PJ Reilly and Frank Exner and by her son Kevin Reilly.
She is survived by her children, Jay (Beth) Reilly, Joe(Bonnie) Reilly, Maribeth (JR) Lynch, Sean (Deb) Reilly, Erin (Tom) Flynn; Daughter in Law Sarah Reilly; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, along with other family and friends across the country.
Celebration of Life to be held May 24th at Wesley Glen 5155 N High St Columbus OH
Visitation from 12 - 2 pm with Memorial Service to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Wesley Glen or the Worthington Education Foundation.
