Peter A. Reday, 76, of Lewis Center, passed away on April 22, 2025 in a medical emergency while doing what he loved, teaching. Originally born in Falls Church, Virginia to the late Joseph and Caroline (Cook) Reday, Peter’s love for travel and education took him all over the globe.
As was evident throughout Peter’s life and career, he loved connecting with people through conversation. His time in the U.S. Army allowed him to study and become proficient in Mandarin, giving him the tools he needed to lead a successful life in Asia. Peter was always seeking out adventure, enjoying anything to do with vehicles (especially sport bikes and corvettes), reading a good novel by Louis L’amour, and a multitude of outdoor activities, such as cycling, running, and diving. Working at the bank of Boston in Singapore, he met his beloved wife Mong Joo. Together they made many friends and memories, spanning across the globe. Studying industrial marketing, both domestic and international, he received his Ph.D from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore under the instruction of his good friend and mentor Roger Marshall of New Zealand. Peter and Mong Joo moved back to the United States after the arrival of their first son Russell where Peter began teaching at the university level. Youngstown State University is where he spent the majority of his academic career, dedicating over 20 years to inspiring and guiding the next generation of students. Pete was known to everybody as a kind, loyal, funny family man who would do anything to help those he cared about. His sons Russell, Riley, and Robi were the true light of his life, never missing a school event and shining with pride whenever given the opportunity to talk about them. Always willing to share a good joke and enjoy a cheap cigar with a Commodore Perry IPA, his presence will forever leave a hole in the lives of those that had the opportunity to know and love him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Susan (Beverly) Driver and his uncle Ladislaw (Marjorie) Reday.
Peter will be greatly missed by his loving wife Mong Joo (Woe) Reday; children Russell (Emilie), Robi, and Riley Reday; brother Michael Reday and brother-in-law Michael (Brenda Tan) Woe; sister Bai Shue Reday and sister-in-law Kalie Woe; cousins Michele (Michael) Cook, Elizabeth (Frank O’Donnell) Reday, and Lenore Reday; nephews David (Cantrell Maryot) Driver, Noah Cook, Alexander O’Donnell, and Marcus Woe; nieces Michelle (Ahmad) Reday, Megan Cook, Sharon Montes, Alyssa Woe, and grandniece Audrey Montes; mother-in-law Doris Tan; and countless friends that became family.
A funeral celebrating Peter’s life will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2:00pm at Schoedinger Worthington. His family will receive guests from 1:00pm until the time of the service.
