Born on June 6, 1936, in Taishan, China, Richard immigrated to Boston at the age of 16 with his brothers, Henry and Jack. Together, they joined their father and grandfather in pursuit of the American dream.
Richard’s strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to build a successful career in the restaurant industry. As the patriarch of the Peacock Restaurant Group, he built a thriving restaurant business.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He loved staying active and could often be found playing ping pong, volleyball, or singing with friends and family. In retirement, he continued to pursue his passion for table tennis, competing in tournaments and even participating in the Arnold Classic. Above all, Richard was a devoted family man who enjoyed traveling and making memories with his loved ones.
Richard is survived by his older brother, Jack Dong, and sister-in-law, Kitty Dong; his younger sister, Mimi Chin; his nieces and nephews (Betty Joe, Paul Tsang, Michael Tsang, Dorothy Bishop, John Dong, Peter Dong, Phil Dong, Jimmy Dong, David Dong, Judy Wilson, Toby Dong, Bert Dong, and Joycelyn Dong); his goddaughter, Erika Lee; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy; his parents; his oldest brother, Henry Dong; and his sisters-in-law, Sau Kin Dong, Mei Chun Chang, Sau Chun Dong, and Lee Wah Dong.
Richard’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the community he helped build. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
