Mrs. Smith was born on November 23, 1931, in Goodwater, Alabama, the daughter of Samuel Edwards and Willie Dark-Edwards.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by both parents, her loving husband, Felton C. Smith and sisters Carrie Darrow (twin) and Louise McKinney.
She was a dedicated worker and a respected presence in her community. She retired from Northside Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio after 32 years. She continued to work at various medical facilities until her final retirement at the age of 82.
She was rich in her skill to make friends. She never met a stranger. Ask anyone who met her in line at the grocery store or seated next to her on a plane.
Although suffering through illness, her faith and service to Jehovah never wavered. All who knew her knew about her love for and faith in Jehovah God. She was baptized on December 16, 2019, at the Mableton, Georgia Congregation.
Mrs. Smith will be remembered as a woman who carried life’s challenges with grace, loved without hesitation and remained sharp, witty and full of spirit into her later years. Her legacy is etched into the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others who were blessed by her presence.
She leaves behind to honor her memory daughters Peggy Williams, Powder Springs, GA, Joann (Clinton) Lynch, Dublin, OH, Sandra Jones, Youngstown, OH, Marlene Smith, Columbus, OH, Darlene Seats, Columbus, OH and her son Jerry Smith, Youngstown, OH, 21 grandchildren along with a loving host of great-grandchildren, great-great – grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbors and lifelong friends.
The family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by LeVonne Hunter, a family friend for over 50 years.
To honor her deep love and legacy, we share this scripture: Revelations 21: 3-4
3’ And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4’He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”.
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” – Maya Angelou
