Carol Ada Stroud went to her eternal home, June 2, 2019 in Yakima, WA. She was born at Grant Orchards, WA to Carl and Leila Muehsam on March 14, 1937. After moving many times, she graduated from high school in Zillah and then proceeded to attend nursing school in Yakima. During this time she met her husband, Lowell Stroud, and life went a different direction.
Daughter, Kathryn Lynn, and son, Kenneth Lowell, arrived and they all moved to the Wapato farm in 1963, continuing there until her death. Lowell and Carol were married 49 years 9 months when he passed. Carol became a school cook in Wapato, and retired 25 years later as a head cook. She was involved with the creation of Wapato’s Cultural Fair, both organizing food and dances. She was also a member of Ashue Grange, and Summitview Church of Christ.
Carol’s passion in life was family (related or not). She supported absolutely everything her husband, kids, grands and greats did. She was always in the background, never missing any event that family was involved in. She was always there. Spending time at the beach house with the family, winter or summer, was the greatest for her. To all she was known as “Manno.”
Carol’s other love was the Central WA Jr. Livestock Show in Toppenish. She celebrated 50 years of being part of the show; as a leader of Bar-X-Eleven 4-H Club, both swine and 4-H superintendent, and a board member. She felt blessed to have the swine arena named, Lowell & Carol Stroud Swine Arena. She believed all children could become successful no matter what, and helped many children throughout her life be just that. One of her favorite Bible verses was 1 Corinthians 13:13, “But the greatest of these is love.” She lived that every day.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Merle, and many cousins she considered sisters and brothers.
She is survived by daughter Kathy (Bryan) Jarvis, and son, Ken (Janet) Stroud; grandchildren Jacob Jarvis, Alyson (Jordan) Flores, and Jack Stroud; great-grandsons Matthew and Jesse Flores, sisters and brother in love, Norma Smith and Vern & Dar Stroud, many nieces and nephew, plus many more that she considered family in all ways.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Summitview Church of Christ, 100 N. 72nd Ave. Yakima. Viewing will be held on Friday, June 7 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home who is in charge of the arrangements.
