

She was born, the first of seven siblings, to Charley and Hazel (Campbell) Yost on February 13, 1925 in Miller, SD. She was born in the home of her Grandparents William and Sarah Yost. Her parents lived in a Claim Shanty SW of Miller and were employed by Ed and Dollie Miller.
She is survived son, Bradley McCartney, daughter, Michelle McCartney Vance (Daniel), grandchildren Michael McCartney (Catherine), Ashley Zieba, Brian Vance, and Taylor Dale Vance; siblings, Edwin Yost, (Norma), Patricia Waters, Ardessa Moser (Richard), Wilson Yost (Iona), and Charles Yost (Kathy) of the Miller, SD area.
Her father indicated that he would support her efforts to become either a nurse or a teacher. Charlotte chose to be a teacher. She taught 16 years in South Dakota County Schools; 13 years of teaching primary grades in Ellensburg, and 13 years in McClure School in Yakima.
She was active in the Women of the Moose earning her College of Regents Degree; in Alpha Delta Kappa, a Teacher's Sorority, and many Masonic Orders. She was a Past Presiding Officer Illihee Chapter of Eastern Star, Sunrise Court, Order of Amaranth, Calvary Shrine, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Women of Chelminar Grotto.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Dale McCartney, Ralph A. Smith, and Kenneth Pope; parents, Yost grandparents, Campbell grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She greeted life with an exceptional gusto and perseverance. She said of life, "Life was wonderful and worth the struggle. I just ran out of time. I'm thankful for my long life; for the opportunity to rise from the dust storm of the depression, to earn my Master's Degree in Education, teach forty-two years, raise a family, and encourage others to do their best and be achievers.”
She rests in the arms of her loving savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ.
