Daniel Winegar, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 27, 2014 at his home in Selah. Dan was born in Moscow, Idaho on May 28, 1951, son of Floyd and Marian Thornton Winegar. Dan lived in multiple cities in the northwest as a child. His family settled in Yakima, WA where he attended West Valley High School and graduated in 1969. After graduation Dan served in the military as a member of the U.S. Army. After returning he met and married his love Sandra Evens. They were married in 1972. To this union two children were born, Chad in 1978 and Heather in 1981. They moved and settled their family to Selah, WA in 1979.
As a Journeyman carpenter Dan loved to use his hands and mind to figure out projects. He worked on crews that built some of the biggest and finest structures in the state. He built multiple bridges and tilt up warehouses, including the reconstruction of the Hood Canal Bridge. His last major job came when his crew cut an 18 foot hole out of the Wanapum Dan and built a 290 foot fish slide. This structure is the first of its kind. If it was built with concrete he wanted to be there. He was an avid fisherman and family man. He gained the nickname “Steely Dan” for his success fishing for steelhead on the Columbia River.
Dan was the second of two children. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife Sandra Winegar of Selah, WA, mother Marian Huberdeau of Spokane, WA, sister DeAnna Throop (Ty) of Baker, MT, son Chad Winegar (Megan) of Selah, WA, daughter Heather Underwood (Brent) of North Bend, WA, grandchildren Taylor and Tally Winegar of Selah, WA, Ivy and Lily Underwood of North Bend.
He was a loving and caring man who would do anything for his family. His four granddaughters were his pride and joy; they made every sacrifice he ever made worth it.
