Derald James Mcconnell

Bud received his early education in Williston and Grafton, North Dakota before the family settled in Yakima, where he graduated from high school with the class of 1947. He went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life Audrey H. Harper on August 31, 1972 in Yakima.

He worked for Sears delivering goods to customers homes retiring in 1991 with 44 years of service. Bud was an avid bowler at the Eagle Lanes, bowling with the Yakima Business League and played fast pitch softball for Farley Gatter and the Yakima Industrial League. Bud served as Wagon Master for the Yakima Vets RV Group from 1977 to 1987, was Past Commander for Post 379 VFW, served as Past District 8 Commander VFW State of Washington and right up until his passing served with the Post 379 VFW Funeral Team.

Bud loved St. Patrick’s Day honoring his Irish heritage and was a true patriot who loved this great country. He and his wife Audrey will always be remembered for their giving of their time, friendship and resources serving the VFW members. He was honored to have volunteered over the past many years in the rendering of military honors to his fallen comrades and now they will be very honored to give those honors to their beloved Bud.

He is survived by his daughters Glenda S. Steelman, Joy Lyn McConnell and Dorene J. Brown; stepdaughter Anna M. Brandt; stepsons Samuel (Susan) N. Kendig and Dennis A. Kendig; his only cousin left, Bev Dillinger; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey McConnell.

Visitation will from 12 pm to 4 pm, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 pm, Sunday, June 4th at the William Wharton Post 379 Veterans of Foreign Wars, 118 S. 5th Ave., Yakima. Private graveside services will be held at Terrace Heights Cemetery.
