With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Dolores Downs, 88, of Yakima, Washington. Mom passed away on February 19, 2026. She was born in Strasburg, North Dakota on September 16, 1937 to Mathias and Rosina Bossert.
Mom was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great grandmother whose life was centered on her family and her faith. She married the love of her life, our dad, Jim Downs on July 24, 1954, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Together they built a life full with love, laughter and strong
family traditions.
Mom retired from Delmonte Corporation. In retirement mom and dad enjoyed traveling with their travel trailer to Florida
to visit family and a memorable visit to Disney World.
By herself mom traveled by railroad to Montana to spend
time with her sisters. Family holidays were especially important to mom. Many thanksgivings were spent in Spokane with their son David and his family, delivering gifts and sharing precious time together. She created lasting memories traveling with her children to Disney World, Key West, the Bahamas and the Hawaiian Islands.
Mom had many talents and hobbies. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, ceramics, tole painting, crocheting, embroidering, swimming and collecting snowmen. She delighted in teaching Jamie cooking and baking skills. Jamie and mom
had many tea parties with their mini set and played games together. Mom was very involved with Dominik, Gabriel and Elijah with their sports, watching
movies and eating popcorn and holiday functions. There is a great love between them all. Dalton has memories of coloring Easter eggs with his grandma as well as baking cookies together. They have a bond that will last forever. Scott's memory for mom is a funny one. They were at grandma and grandpas
for Christmas Eve, like we always did, but one year it was different.
Someone made jello shots and grandma decided to have one or two. Now this is a lady who didn’t drink, and next thing I hear is hysterical laughing from the kitchen. This went on for hours and I watched my grandma smile and enjoy herself the whole evening with her family that she loved so deeply. It was the funniest thing I experienced and still laugh about it to this day.
Jennifer's memories of mom are playing cards. It was either phase 10, Uno or Taboo. Grandma taught me how to shuffle cards.
Mom cooked with Andrea as well. We all got together and talked about life at the kitchen table. Again, we played cards with grandma and grandpa. She always loved the family get together. I will never forget grandma’s poofy hair and her smile always lite up a room! Family was truly her happy place. Lindsay has a fond memory of conning a large ice cream cone from grandma at the Dairy Queen.
Jane was truly blessed to have mom as a mother in law. She was a blast to have as a travel partner. Mom was an angel on earth.
As her daughter, Patricia, everyday is a wonderful memory with mom.
She is survived by her children; James David Downs Jr (Jane), Felica Blair (Ron), Trish Patricia Hamlin(Jim) and Leslie Creach; her grandchildren; Jamie, Andrea, Scott, Jennifer, Dalton and Tylis; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Margie Thompson
She was preceded in death by our dad, Jim Downs and her grandson Austin Miller.
A rosary and visitation will be held at Langevin Funeral Home on March 9, 2026 from 4:00 pm. To 8:00 pm.,
