

She was born to Theodore and Anna Hurst December 22,1926 the third of six children in Arkansas.
At the age of 16 her mom and dad came out to Washington in the back of a pick-up truck for a better life.
She met her future husband Leroy Thurman at the age of 19. They were married March 28, 1947, made their home in Yakima Washington raising two children.
She was a homemaker, a Sunday school teacher A youth leader. She was very involved in the church. Later they had to move to Grandview Washington where she continued to be involved in church working in the women's ministry. She also went back to school to be a nurse. She was very artistic and painted many pictures. She did many types of crafts. She was also an Author writing a book of her life. Enjoying their grandchildren was a priority in life.
In the retirement years they move back to Yakima did a lot of traveling. Going to the beach was a must and camping. Her husband passed away in September 1996 just a little short 50 years of marriage. Dorothy continue to live in Yakima until 2006 when she moved to the Tri-Cities to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Scott (Kennewick, WA) and Randy Thurman ( Hillsboro, Oregon); four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. two sister Coretta Parsley (Charles) of Yakima WA. and Iola Mayberry in Flippin, AR as well as many nieces and nephews great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death with her husband, mom and dad, two sisters and a brother. Also a son-in-law and daughter in law.
A memorial service Friday 13, 2015 at Keith & Keith at 11 AM. Burial will follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
