Douglas Ray Wilson, 71, passed away on October 25, 2023. He was born on November 15, 1951 in Yakima, Washington to Loren and Ida Mae Wilson.
Doug was the oldest of Loren and Ida Mae’s five children. He was raised in Selah, where he completed all of his schooling and graduated from Selah High School in 1970. Following high school, Doug became a skilled brick mason. He was a perfectionist in his trade as he learned and worked with one of the best, his father Loren. Throughout his career Doug had the opportunity to be a part of the crews that built the Anchorage Public Library, as well as the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks stadiums. He was incredibly proud of his accomplishments as a brick mason of over 35 years.
Doug was married to Lori Soderlund from 1986-2013 and together they had three beautiful daughters: Ashley, Kierstin, and Erika. Doug loved his girls immensely and it always showed! He couldn’t help but smile when he would talk about “his girls.” Doug and his daughters created many memories together including adventures at the cabin, working together on woodworking projects, hunting, fishing, and many pizza nights. Whether they were on the hillside picking blueberries or on a mountainside looking through crosshairs on a deer – Doug was happiest with his girls!
Doug was quite the mountain man and his love for the outdoors was evident. His eyes would light up as soon as he’d start telling his hunting and fishing stories, and you could see his happiness shine through. He spent many, many hunting seasons successfully filling his tags and the freezer. Doug was also able to share special hunts with his daughters, and those memories will be cherished forever! His love for spending time outdoors was endless. When he wasn’t in the hills for hunting, he was in the hills at the family cabin. It was one of his favorite places to be. He enjoyed taking his grandkids on 4-wheeler rides, hunting for Christmas trees, making s’mores over the campfire, and of course sharing lots of stories and laughs! Doug’s spirit will always be in presence up at the cabin.
Doug is preceded in death by his father, Loren R. Wilson, and his mother, Ida Mae Wilson. He is survived by his daughters; Ashley Daniels (Dustin), Kierstin Lybeck (Bo) and Erika Alexander (Austin), and his grandchildren Julianne Lybeck, Jase Lybeck, Jackson Daniels, Dawson Daniels, and his granddaughter due in December. Doug is also survived by his siblings; David Wilson, Diane Custer, Deb Mitchell, and Lori Ripplinger.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday April 20, 2024 at the Selah Civic Center. If you knew Doug then you know he would love to have you stop by at your convenience between 1:00-5:00pm to share hugs, laughter, and stories with friends and family.
