Elsie Pinkal Herron Loser Gulley passed away May 7, 2012 at Wynwood Assisted Care Center in Yakima, WA. She was born Jan 15, 1918 in Torrington, Wyoming to Adolph and Lenora Pinkal. Life was hard in the 1918’s as the family moved from Wyoming to the Dakotas to Oregon and back again about three times. These were the years you collected cow chips to keep warm and corn cobs to cook with. Elsie was one of nine children with four siblings preceding her in death.
In 1935, she married Elmer Herron moving to Yakima for work. During these years they had three children and she worked for many of the retail stores in Yakima. Especially at Christmas time in the toy department. Later she began working as a waitress. (Remember the Donut Shop on west Walnut Avenue?).
In 1958, she married Herman Loser which added Fred and Midge Loser to our family. The family then moved to Spokane and later to Post Falls, ID before moving back to Yakima upon Herman’s retirement. She loved raising farm animals and would feed many baby calves and lambs on bottles. Living in East Selah, she raised turkeys to sell at Thanksgiving. In her later years, she learned the art of decorating cakes for resale. She enjoyed dancing and socializing at the Moose Lodge and fishing with family and friends. She married Henry (Hank) Gulley in 1993, and then in her later years she volunteered with the Harmon Senior Center collecting money for the Wednesday dances.
Elsie is survived by her children, Vivian Stillwaugh, and Joyce (Jim) Adcock both of Yakima, WA, Dennis (Carolyn) Herron of New Plymouth, Idaho, Midge Loser of Bremerton, WA and Fred (Jan) Loser of Warrenton, OR; one brother, Raymond Pinkal of Prosser, WA; sisters, Ruby Eckstrom of Silver Bay, MN, Betty Wortin of Coos Bay OR and Esther Jolly of Cottonwood, CA; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
