She married David Wilson Williams on June 19, 1949. She is survived by the five children they raised: Susan and her husband, Stephen Durham; David and his wife, Dolores; Joan and her husband, Greg Leid; Robert and his wife, Brenda; and Tom and his late wife, Debbie; and by her niece, Anne Boyrie McCarthy. The family grew to include eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The family was the joy of Florence and David’s life, and for nearly four decades they hosted regular family reunions.
Florence and David met while attending Reed College in Portland. They married soon after graduating, and began building a life together. Florence worked while David attended medical school and completed residencies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and at the Veterans Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and together they moved to Yakima in 1956 to open a practice in internal medicine.
As the family grew, Florence and David inspired in them a sense of honor and an appreciation of excellence. They became lovers of both the outdoors and the arts. As her children became more independent, Florence cultivated her skills as a horsewoman, awarded Washington State’s over-40 Champion Amateur-Owner Hunter in multiple years.
After David’s retirement in 1994, they traveled through many countries around the world and visited all seven continents. Committed to making a contribution to the community in which they built a full, happy and rewarding life, they were longtime supporters of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, the Capitol Theatre, and the Yakima Valley Museum.
A private and modest person, Florence has requested that there be no public service. A family gathering will be held a later date.
Keith and Keith has been entrusted with her care.
