

George Russell Mattoon, 61, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 1, 2011. George was born on June 20, 1949 in Los Angeles, CA. His family moved to Yakima WA in 1950. George attended school there, graduating from Eisenhower High in 1967. He excelled in mathematics and the local social scene. He attended Yakima Valley College and Central Washington University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1982.
George loved water sports - swimming, boating, water skiing. He enjoyed the game of golf. His favorite course of late was Riverbend in Kent, WA. He collected fine wine from Washington and California.
He chose sales as a profession - his favorite position was as Director of Development for Sleep Country USA. In twelve years with Sleep Country, he was a mentor and a motivator for many employees and received awards for Salesman of the Year. . In prior employment he received awards for Salesman of the Year at Campbell Soup, Stuart Pharmaceuticals, Greeff Fabrics, Stroheim & Romann, Kinder Harris, and Casa Bique.
George had to leave Sleep Country in July 2010 due to health reasons. George knew how to live life to its fullest and made many life- long friends. He was always smiling and had great stories to share.
George’s family would like to thank Valley Medical Center in Renton and Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland for the care and compassion that George received.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Wallace Mattoon.
George is survived by his brother, Phil (Beverly) Mattoon of Yakima WA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland WA.
