Gerald Zimmerman was born July 29, 1940, in Cashmere Washington to Clarence Zimmerman and Ester (Keller) Zimmerman. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy Zimmerman, and son, Danny Zimmerman. He is survived by his brother, Lonnie Zimmerman and former spouse Ina Mae (Verhoef) Kaser, and his daughters, Jan Zimmerman and Dianne McDonald. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jerry attended High School in Granger, Washington where he met his High School sweet-heart, Ina Mae Verhoef. Jerry joined the Army after High School and was stationed in Germany. Jerry and Ina were married August 20th, 1958 when Jerry came home on leave. Ina later joined him in Germany where their first daughter, Kathy, was born. After Jerry was discharged from the Army they returned to the Yakima Valley, where their second daughter, Jan, was born. Work eventually brought them to the Tri-Cities where their twins, Dianne and Danny, were born. Jerry worked as a police officer until he retired from the force in 1977. In 1982 he moved to Yakima where he eventually met a special friend, Carolyn Brown. The family wishes to extent heart-felt gratitude for the unconditional love that Carolyn provided Jerry during the latter half of his life.
Jerry was a man with a smart wit and a creative knack that enabled him to build most anything needed. From sheds, garages, elaborate fences, retaining walls, cement patios, or sprinkling systems, Jerry could do it. He had a soft spot for older cars and trucks and enjoyed maintaining them. But nothing got Jerry more excited than the thrill of a deal. He was always on the lookout for what could be repaired and sold, no matter how small.
Jerry was also a private person who preferred to stay at home. Despite his need for privacy, there were always neighbors who were friends. He will be missed.
