I am saddened to announce the death of Gonzalo Guillén-Ramos. He passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving family on July 9, 2022. He was born September 14, 1950 to Everardo Guillén and Maria de Jesus Guillén-Ramos in El Guayabo (Penjamillo, Michoacán de Ocampo) he was one of thirteen children. He emigrated from Mexíco to the United States in 1968 and settled in the San Joaquin Valley in the city of Los Baños. There he married Eva Rose Calleros and had two children Gonzalo Guillén and Susanna Guillén (Martinez). He then moved to Yakima, Washington in the mid-70’s and he married Petra Martinez. With Petra he had two more children Jessica Guillén (Fasano) and Sonia Guillén. He also left behind six grandchildren, Tristan, Erikah, Arianna, Daniel, Abigail and Santiago. Gonzalo also left behind his four legged best friend Henry. Gonzalo worked in agriculture for most of his life. He enjoyed traveling to Mexíco, gardening, (winning Yakima Yard of the Month a few times). He also enjoyed advocating for farm workers rights with the United Farm Workers. He loved music. There was always music playing in his home, at times to the dismay of his neighbors. To help remember my father I ask that we all take a moment to remember and honor all of the hardworking people that are in the agriculture and service industries and all of the sacrifices they make to make our lives better.
The memorial will be at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home on Thursday, July 14th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Friday, July 15th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St Josephs Cathedral. The Guillén family would ask that even though our father loved flowers and gardening to please consider donating in lieu of flowers to help with his funeral expenses on Gofundme to help our mother with his final expenses.
