

Janet Rieg LeCocq died April 16, 2010 at Memorial Hospital. Janet was born to Ida and Joe Rieg in Portland, Oregon on June 12, 1921. She resided in Portland until she attended the University of Oregon Nursing School. She met her husband, Frank LeCocq while he was in Medical School and they married in May 1942. Frank was in the Army which took them to Florida for two years. They returned to Portland for a few years before settling in Yakima in 1949.
Janet was active in the community. She was a past president of the Junior Aid of Yakima and later was named Sustainer of the Year for her strong commitment to the community. She was also a member the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae group, the Medical Auxillary, the Florence Wright Guild, and the First Presbyterian Church.
Janet was an avid traveler and combined her love of travel with volunteer experiences. She and Frank served two three-month tours on the Good Ship Hope, one in Brazil and another in Southeast Asia. They also served in CARE-Medico service units in Indonesia and Afghanistan.
Janet was a skilled seamstress and cook, and enjoyed knitting and needle point. She was also a pilot and earned her instrument rating.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, one brother Joe Rieg, her husband, Frank LeCocq, and her daughter Christine LeCocq McCullough. She is survived by three daughters and four sons-in-law: Susan LeCocq Coan and her husband Ralph of Atherton, CA; JoAnn LeCocq McCarthy and her husband Norman of Yakima; Robert McCullough of St. Helena CA; and Mary LeCocq Zorich and her husband Jay of Everett, WA; six grandchildren, Shannon Coan Toyos, Scott LeCocq Coan, Regan McCarthy, Michelle McCarthy, Carrie McCullough Pilgrim, and Andy Zorich; and three great grandchildren, Sofia Susan Toyos, Dylan Thomas Walsh, and Chloe Christine McCarthy.
