Ken was born on May 19, 1933 to Elmer and Sue Kohagen in Yakima, WA. After Ken graduated from Yakima High in 1953, he went on to study Business Administration at a local college.
He joined the US Army in 1956 where he served 2 years as part of the US Army Southeastern Signal School and as a Radio Relay & Carrier Operator. This was part of what ignited his love of amateur radio; a hobby that he passed on to his son.
Ken met his wife, Vi here in Yakima in his early 30’s. Ken and Vi had 2 children, Brian and Cheryl.
Ken retired after working 30 years for the City of Yakima. He started as a City Bus driver and worked his way up to head Safety Coordinator for the City of Yakima, putting on Bus Rodeo’s and training city personal for CDL’s.
Ken’s love of observing weather and interest in tracking local weather led to his detailed reports of weather patterns going back to the late 1800’s. Anyone who knew Ken was well aware of his passionate distaste of Climate Change Alarmists and those who wanted proof of why it was a hoax were treated to a wealth of detailed information on the how’s and why’s of earths natural weather cycles.
Ken enjoyed spending time with his model railroad trains, visiting dams on vacations, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Ken was predeceased by his sister Marilyn and his wife Vi. He is survived by his 2 children Brian and Cheryl, his grandkids David, Bethany, Emily, Alana, Keagen and his great grandson, Eli.
