Kenneth W. Meier, age 92, died March 31, 2018. He was born in Ellendale, ND on May 6, 1925. He graduated from high school in 1942 in Eddyville, IA. Ken attended Kletzing College in Iowa before joining the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps in 1944. After his WWII service, he married Ruth Freda Barnett in Verndale MN.
Ken graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1948 and later earned two Master’s degrees in Education in Flagstaff, AZ and Chemistry in Colorado Springs, CO. He taught science in Hayden, AZ, Morton WA and at Yakima Davis High then driver’s ed. at other Yakima area high schools. After retiring from teaching, he started his own driving school, Cascade School of Driving. Through the years, he was considered a “favorite teacher” by so many.
Ken was a faithful layman at West Valley Church of the Nazarene in the music ministry and as Sunday school teacher and board member. He also served 52 years on the local and state boards of Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Ruth, four children—Karen, Kathy (Gary), Kelly (Peggy), Karl (Kari), 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service is planned for May 11, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at West Valley Church at 72nd Ave. & Nob Hill Blvd., followed by a 2 p.m. graveside service with military honors at West Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, you may give to West Valley Church mission projects or to Child Evangelism Fellowship.
