She started first grade at the Brownstown Grange in Brownstown, WA speaking only French. She graduated from Wapato High School in 1937 and attended Yakima Business College.
It was at a social gathering at the Brownstown Grange that she met Jim Hill. They were later married on April 12, 1944. Her life on the farm was devoted to her family. During harvest, she would take lunch and fuel to Jim and run parts when necessary.
She loved being with family especially the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews. They all have fond memories on the farm with Grandma and Grandpa where they were allowed to do anything they wanted, including driving the car on the ditchbank. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, and embroidery work.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Women Guild in White Swan and taught Catechism classes.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Tom (Karon) Hill of Yakima, Tim Hill of Harrah, Julie Hill of Grandview, and Joyce (Larry) Calhoun of Yakima; grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Christy, Savanah, & Marie Hill, and John and Brad Calhoun; eleven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her special sister (cousin) Delores Shields.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years, an infant grandson, and her brother, Elmer Boisselle.
She was a kind and gentle person who will be missed by all.
We would like to thank the entire staff at Selah Care and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and kindness extended to our Mother and family.
