She was born on July 25, 1940, in New England, North Dakota to her parents Joseph Urlacher and Frances Schaff. Shortly after, her family relocated to Yakima where she attended Catholic schools and Yakima High School and completed her secondary education. She grew up alongside eleven siblings, speaking German at home, and enjoyed dancing and roller-skating.
Ludvina was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. She poured her heart into her grandchildren by devoting her time to caring for them after school during their childhood, and by supporting their accomplishments in adulthood. Ludvina had a vibrant social life and spent many days with her closest friends over a glass of white wine. She liked to refer to her friend group as “The Golden Girls”, and they called her by her nickname “Luddy”.
She fiercely fought cancer five times and was a proud, resilient survivor. In the face of each diagnosis, she showed grit and inspired those around her. Although cancer was a large part of her story, she did not allow it to define her. She will be remembered for her loyalty, generosity, bravery, and spunky personality.
Ludvina is survived by her daughter, DeAnn Donaldson; her son, Darin Donaldson, and his wife, Renae; her grandchildren, Regan Donaldson and Reid Donaldson; her sisters, Mathilda Bellows and Elizabeth Riley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; three sisters; and her former husband and long-time friend, Richard “Ted” Donaldson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yakima Catholic Charities.
