

Margarett Adeline Gallion, 90, died January 11, 2011 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital. She was born July 25, 1920 in San Jose, California to Robert and Elizabeth (Gansberg) Donavan. She was baptized August 14, 1921 in the Tracy, California Lutheran Church and was a Lutheran her entire life. Her parents later divorced and she and her sister were raised by her mother and step father George Nickerson. She grew up in California and graduated from Tracy Union High School in 1939. She went to Stockton Junior College graduating in 1941. She married LeRoy Danner during World War II. Two children were born of this union, James and George Steven Danner.
After the war, she divorced and went back to school graduating from The College of the Pacific in Stockton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948.
Margarett became a high school Home Economics teacher where she met and married fellow teacher Robert (Bob) Gallion June 9, 1951 in Berkeley California. They had two sons Stuart and Rob. Robert went to work for Libby, McNeill and Libby which required them to move several times. They last moved to Selah in November 1966 where Margarett maintained vegetable and flower gardens. Margarett was a very good cook (and taught her 4 sons to cook), sewed many of her clothes, and did needlework and quilting. She enjoyed reading histories, biographies and mystery stories. She liked watching the Mariner games on TV.
She was a member of Selah’s Amity club for almost 40 years making many friends and serving as its president in the 1973-74 year. She liked to play bridge with her friends and attend the Yakima Towne Hall meetings. She had been a member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Selah since 2002. After Bob retired in the 1980’s, they enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV visiting relatives and friends while seeing America.
She is survived by her husband Bob, her sons Jim (Susan) Danner, George Steven (Naomi) Danner, Stuart Gallion and Rob Gallion. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren Kendall, Catherine and Matt, and 5 great grandchildren, Chelsea, Travis, Samantha, Rebecca and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth Nickerson and her beloved younger sister, Lorette High.

Visiting hours will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Selah Thursday, January 20, 20111 at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Margarett’s name with the American Diabetes Association or to Yakima Greenway.
