Marion Genevieve Ross, 91, was born May 27th, 1930, in Lebanon, Missouri. She moved to Washington State with her family when she was thirteen years old. She was one of nine siblings: Harold, Gerald, Virgil, Robert, Ernestine, Pauline, Marjorie, Genevieve, and Helen. Genevieve lived a full life, had three sons and many grandchildren. She survived the loss of her husband Gerald Ross and each of her sons, Carl Dean, Gayland, and Robert. She died in Tacoma on March 30th, 2022, while living with her granddaughter and great granddaughters, surrounded by those who loved her dearly, including her dog Little Bit.
Genevieve was a retired United States Postal Service Postmaster. Her hobbies were quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She baked cakes whenever visitors came to her home and always had a Pepsi or coffee ready when you walked in the door. She loved to garden and always had flowers to take to her loved ones who had passed; pink peonies were her favorite to share at graves. She also picked her home-grown tomatoes for almost every meal in the summertime.
Genevieve loved God and had a strong, constant faith and full relationship with Him. She had a quiet but strong love for her family that was centered in her faith. She would sit and talk with you for hours, willing and eager to talk about the Lord, and tell stories about how she grew up, about each of her family members, the places she had traveled, and always had a piece of advice for your troubles. She was a great listener; she was a jokester, and her gift of hospitality knew no bounds.
Tucked in some of her recipes was a scripture, Psalms 36: 5 and 6: “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgements are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord.” and on the top in her writing, it said, “dogs go to Heaven.” She recognized that her dog Little Bit will see her again as will the rest of us. It is comforting to recognize that Genevieve is young again and at peace in Heaven where she has wanted to be for quite some time. She is missed, and she is loved.
Grandma Genevieve is survived by her sister Helen Rath, her grandson Carl Scott and granddaughter Desiree, who are Carl Dean’s children, and her great granddaughters from Desiree: Lorelei, Carissa, Phoebe, and Ellie. Before passing, Genevieve was excited at the prospect of becoming a great, great grandmother to Elias, Lorelei’s son. She also is survived by Gayland’s children, Chris and Nicole, and Robert's children. Genevieve had a great many nieces and nephews who were still in her life and we all love her.
Indeed, Genevieve leaves behind a legacy of love for those who knew and appreciated her best. She is missed and will be remembered.
