Marion was born on the farm near Duluth, Minnesota to Frank and Inez Thiel on March 3, 1930, the oldest of five children. She moved to Yakima in 1946 with her family.
At the age of 17 she married Tim Horner, with whom she had four children, Linda, Roger, Karen and Rodney. Tim passed away in December 1965. She married Robert (Bob) Haffner in May of 1966, with whom she had a son, Robert. Bob died in 1968. She was then married to Ralph Janshen from 1973 until his death in 1990.
She is survived by four children, Linda Peters of Selah, Roger (Diane) Horner of Vancouver, Karen Knight of Selah and Robert (Rhonda) Haffner of Selah, 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Bill Thiel of Yakima.
She was preceded in death by husband Tim Horner, husband Bob Haffner, husband Ralph Janshen, son Rodney Horner, two sons-in-law, two grandsons, and three brothers.
Marion was an independent woman who lived a life full of family, adventures and experiences. She and Tim started their life together in the home they built themselves, the house she lived in until her death.
Marion was the second seat driver for husband Ralph while they did long-haul trucking, until she broke her neck unloading a truck, which ended her long haul career.
Her hobbies included fishing, hunting, jeeping, camping, square dancing, bowling, and growing her vegetable garden as well as a variety of roses. Many received the gift of her special crocheted afghans over the years.
As matriarch of the family Marion spent her life caring for others. In addition to helping raise four generations of children, which included numerous nieces, nephews and step children, she had an open door policy for anyone in need. If Grandma J knew you or anyone you were related to she considered you family. And as family you were expected to walk in without knocking when visiting her home as we know the angels are welcoming her home now.
A visitation service will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home at 902 West Yakima Avenue on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m., to be immediately followed by graveside services at West Hills Memorial Park in West Valley. A reception will be held at granddaughter Teresa’s house at 150 Archie Road upon conclusion of services.
