

Surrounded by her loving family, Mary Tyrrell Richardson, 100, died at home in Yakima on Saturday, January 18, 2014. Born in Selah on August 20, 1913 to Leo and Lena Tyrrell, Mary attended St. Joseph Academy for eight years and graduated from Selah High in 1931. An avid skier, golfer and tennis player and all-around natural athlete, she won the city tennis championship twice.
She graduated from St Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1936. Through out her life, she used her nursing skills to help anyone in need. She married Norman Richardson in 1940. Mary was employed at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a registered nurse for several years.
Mary was a longtime active member of Holy Family & Holy Rosary Catholic Church’s, the Legion of Mary, the YLI Institute #96, as well as Serra Club. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Nurses Alumni Association & Past President of the Suntides Ladies Golf Association.
Mary’s life centered around family & a strong faith guided her every day of her life, as evidenced by all the lives she touched. Her grandchildren have wonderful memories of the many golf & fishing vacations. More than anything, she loved spending time with family.
Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Leona Lyons, her son, Jerry and her grandson, Matthew.
She is survived by two/sons, Dennis (Kay) Richardson of Yakima and Leo (Karen) Richardson of Spokane; daughter, Susan (Robert) Miller of Portland and daughter-in-law, Joann Richardson of Yakima; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Due to the care and devotion of her niece, Mary Urlacher, Mary was able to live at home. Mary’s family is forever grateful to her faithful and loving caregivers.
A Rosary Service will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on February 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Private inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
