She was born born November 3, 1955 in Yakima, Washington and Passed March 7, 2010. Mary Corrine Schumacker was a special person. She was an aunt, sister, friend and loved one. Though she was born challenged it never discouraged her. Mary was raised separate from her father, mother, brothers and sisters but was always a dear part of their family and joined them every year for family gatherings. She lived a rich life full of friends and extended family.
Mary was raised by other extraordinary individuals throughout her life that added to its richness. In foster care she remembered fondly her days living with Bill and Eileen Wardell in Yakima. Later in life and most recently she received the loving care of Jerry and Helen Lozier of Terrace Heights. Many others helped Mary along her path in life and they all deserve thanks.
Mary was one of the first disabled persons in Washington State to enter into an “independent living” program that allowed her to live outside of constant supervision. She thrived in this environment and became her own woman. She worked regular jobs, developed regular friends and had boyfriends. Mary enjoyed bowling and was a Special Olympian in swimming. She was loved by all that came in contact with her.
For over a decade Mary was accompanied everywhere with her boyfriend Mike Andrews of Yakima. She and Mike were best friends and were often seen walking together through Yakima on the way to the movies or restaurants. Mike was very special to Mary and to her family.
Mary is survived by her mother, Mary E. Schumacker of Toppenish, WA, her brother Joe Schumacker of Ocean City, WA, her sister Julie (Carl) Jorgensen of Snohomish, WA, her brother Jeff (Denise) Schumacker of Zillah, WA, her brother Jerry (Judy) Schumacker of Clackamas, OR and her sister Jacqueline (Jae) Huh of Minneapolis, MN.
