Mary (Sue) Trampush passed away peacefully on August 7, 2016 at the age of 86 after a long battle with dementia. She was born as Mary Lee Ferguson in Carthage, Missouri in 1930. Legend has it that a nurse made a mistake on her birth certificate and omitted the name “Sue” that her parents had given her. For the rest of her life, Sue had to sign every official document with Mary Lee. But she was always known as Sue.
Sue moved to Selah with her parents in 1945. She loved to garden and tend to her roses, sew, craft and bake where she always cooked enough food for an army because you just never knew who would be stopping by – her door was always open and she loved visitors. She was also an enthusiastic bowler in her day and played in the local Selah bowling league for many years. She was active in the community before a stroke in 2008, and was loved by everyone who had the good fortune to know her. She had a long career as a retail store manager for the Bi Mart.
Sue is survived by her three children, Dan (Ann) Trampush, Allen (Izumi) Trampush, Barbara (Scott) Purington, four grandchildren, Amy, Katie, Amanda and Emily, four great grandchildren, Melody, Willow, Stacie and Kylie; sisters Charlotte (Ed) Field and Sharon Ferguson along with a seemingly infinite number of nieces and nephews and an extended family she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Ferguson, her husband, John Trampush and first husband, Robert Jenkins, and four siblings, Inez Steele, Lorraine Close, Kate Ford, and Don Ferguson.
Sue’s former caregiver best described her spirit when, upon learning of her passing said “… I loved her so much, I will always remember her great love for her family and how every child and animal deserved a Sue hug and she will live forever in my heart!”
A vigil will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Friday, August 26th at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday, August 27th at St. Paul’s Cathedral Chapel at 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
The family would like to thank the staff and owners of Shumway Mansion Adult Family Home in Kirkland for the wonderful care they provided for our mother during the last 5 years.
