Mavis Joann Hoxie

Mavis JoAnn Hoxie (Koop), 87, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, in Yakima, Washington. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished aunt, Mavis leaves behind a legacy of love and quiet strength that will be remembered by all who knew her.

Born on April 25, 1938, in Boise, Idaho, Mavis was the daughter of John and Florence Koop. Her early years were shaped by the values of family and faith that would remain central throughout her life. She moved to Yakima during her youth and graduated from Yakima High School in 1956, the year before it became known as A.C. Davis High School.

Mavis married Duane Hoxie in 1957 and together they built a life centered around their children and extended family. Though Duane preceded her in death in 1984, their shared devotion to family endured through generations. She was the proud mother of Diana (Andy) Boen, Tina Hoxie, Dan Hoxie, and the late David Hoxie. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, Holli Eiesland, Matthew Estrada, and Benjamin Hoxie; and to her great-granddaughter Madison Hoxie. Mavis also held a special place in the lives of many nieces and nephews as a beloved aunt.

Mavis was one of five siblings. She is survived by her brother Marvin Koop and was predeceased by her brothers John L. Koop, Dale Koop, Earle Koop, and Lyle Koop. The bonds she shared with her siblings were deep-rooted and enduring.

A woman of quiet faith, Mavis found daily comfort in Christian devotionals that guided her through life’s joys and challenges. Her spiritual grounding provided strength not only for herself but also for those around her. Her home was a place where love was expressed through simple, shared meals, warm conversations, and unwavering support. Whether offering guidance to her children or delighting in the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchild, Mavis embodied grace and steadfast care. May the memory of Mavis JoAnn Hoxie bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

A Reception will be held on May 24, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM at Keith & Keith Funeral Home 902 W Yakima Ave. Reception for the life of Mavis Hoxie to include her son David Hoxie's life. The reception will include snacks and drinks.
