Melvin "Mel" Allen

Melvin "Mel" Allen was born in Sentinel Butte, ND to Webster and Rose (Theisen) Allen. Mel married Virginia in October 1979 and she preceded him in death in 2004. Mel is survived by his daughters Connie Gaebel (Rich), Judy Wild (Mike), and Vickie Lyon. Mel has a surviving brother Donnie in ND. His siblings Henry, Webster, Kenny, Barbara, Carl and Roman preceded him in death. He was a beloved Grandpa to Michelle, Erin, Dacia, Chris and Alicia; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mel grew up in ND and served in the Navy from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. Following his military service, he spent several years in the auto dealership business in Washington State. In later years Mel worked for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Selah Convalescent Home.

Mel was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Selah, as well as a member/officer with the Knights of Columbus since 1951 and the 4th Degree since 1985.

A Rosary Celebration will be held on Wednesday October 9th, 2019 at 5pm at Langevin Funeral Home in Yakima, with a viewing from 4-8pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday October 10th at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Selah, followed by a graveside service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A celebration reception of Mel's life will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in the hall that honors Mel (the building has been named after him).
