Meryl was born in Ellensburg on April 6, 1937 to Alma and William (Bud) Cameron. The oldest of 3 children, Meryl graduated from Kittitas High School in 1955 where she was active in school activities and cheerleading.
Meryl married William (Bill) Hayes on December 2, 1955. They settled in Kittitas Valley and raised four children: two boys and two girls. They moved to Ellensburg in 1972 where she and Bill bowled along with their children, and always brought home many trophies. In 1975, they moved to Prosser, WA.
Meryl became a school bus driver and retired after 25 years. Meryl was captain of the Women’s Softball League and active in the Women’s Golf Association, when she got a hole-in-one at Sunnyside Golf. She and Bill spent many days on the golf course.
