Nancy Jean Gross, 78, of Yakima, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Nancy was living at Summitview Healthcare Center in Yakima at the time of her death. Nancy was born on April 9, 1939 in Yakima to Victor and Adelaide (Johnson) Krautkremer.
Nancy lived in the Cowiche area on a farm as a young girl but moved to Idaho after the family sold the family farm. Nancy later returned to the Yakima Valley with her family and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. Nancy moved to Portland, Oregon following high school graduation in 1957 and met her first husband, John Frantz in 1963, and later met and married her second husband, Eldon Gross, in 1969.
Nancy was employed outside the home at Tektronix Inc. in the Portland area for a short time, but also helped her mother, at the same time, providing elder care for a few ladies. Nancy’s greatest joy was helping her father in the family orchard from 1988, when she moved back to Yakima, until 2000, when her father became unable to work due to health reasons. Nancy was also involved in her church, Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima, and served for a time on the parish council.
Immediate family survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Mandy Frantz of Tacoma, Washington; daughter, Julia Durham of Troutdale, Oregon; and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Margo Krautkremer of Rochester, Washington. Nancy is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Jessica (Frantz) Day, Kimberly (Frantz) Fowler, Aaron Roy, Alexander Roy, and Katie Roy; and her 5 great-grandchildren. Nancy is also survived by a cousin, Kathleen Nebout of Hitchcock, Texas, who she referred to as a “sister” and her ex-son-in-law, Andrew Roy, who she was especially fond of and who helped her complete her taxes for many years. Nancy was preceded in death by both her parents, Victor Krautkremer and Adelaide (Johnson) Rowe, and her widower, Eldon Gross.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2018 at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home, with a Rosary service at 5:30 p.m.. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
