Norm was born on April 22, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Jess and Beulah Ingraham. The family lived in the small, farming town of Barnes City, Iowa. His father, Jess was a county road surveyor and his mother, Beulah was a homemaker. Norm’s grandparents also lived in town and his grandfather was a marshal, sheriff and justice of the peace.
He attended the Barnes City School from kindergarten-freshman year and then North Mahaska High School in New Sharon, Iowa.
After high school, Norman was headed to the University of Iowa’s Pharmacy College where he met his future wife, Connie on the very first day of college orientation.
Norm and Connie were married on December 21, 1963 in Iowa City, Iowa. The couple moved to Elgin, Illinois in 1967 where Norm began working for Osco Drug as a pharmacist. During this time they had their children Michael and then Kirsten. As the couple contemplated their future, they wanted to explore the beauty of the West and moved to Yakima.
Norm was a pharmacist at the Buttrey Superama store for 22 years and then worked for 4 years at the 5th Ave. Bi-Mart Pharmacy until retirement in 1997. He had worked as a pharmacist for over 30 years.
Norm truly enjoyed working as a pharmacist helping customers but his true passion was spending time with his wife at their Rimrock Lake cabin and seeing who could catch the most and biggest fish. Retirement brought much enjoyment for Norm and Connie spending time at their cabin, fishing, visiting with grandchildren and traveling in their motor home.
To his family and friends, Norman was funny, intelligent, honest, kind and generous. His children and 7 grandchildren will miss his love and spirit. Notably to his family, Norm was devoted to his wife Connie, and spent several years caring for her when she developed Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, Norm reflected the hard work ethic of his generation, supporting and encouraging his two children Kirsten and Michael in all they aspired to.
Norm is survived by a daughter, Kirsten Greninger of Everett; son Michael Ingraham of Seattle; brother Roger Meyer of Yakima; 7 grandchildren Quinn and Hannah Greninger of Everett, Sida, Tate, Audrey, Ashleigh, and Johnny Ingraham of Seattle; nieces Kate Davidson of Yakima, Connie Sanders of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Debi Mason of Oskaloosa, Iowa; nephews David Meyer of Boise, Idaho and Rodney Mason of New Sharon, Iowa. His father Jess Ingraham, mother Beulah Ingraham, and sister Joan Mason precede him in death.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Avenue, Yakima, WA.
In honor of Norm’s wife Connie and a family effort to support research and development for Alzheimer’s disease, memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Norm’s name to: Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Keith and Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902.
