Surrounded by friends and family, Paul Emile Bergevin, 93, passed away peacefully at his landmark home in Yakima, Washington on April 15, 2026. Born at home in Moxee, Washington, on June 19, 1932, Paul grew up in the Moxee community, attended local schools, and graduated from Marquette High School in 1950. He earned his undergraduate degree from Central Washington University in 1955 and went on to study economics at the University of Washington.
Paul proudly served 3½ years in the United States Army, including two years stationed in Athens, Greece, and Istanbul, Turkey—an experience that fostered his lifelong appreciation for travel, culture, and global affairs.
Following his military service, Paul began a distinguished career with SeaFirst Bank, where he rose to become a top manager in the Seattle area and a branch manager in Yakima. He later joined S.S. Steiner, dedicating another two decades to his position as regional manager and broker of agricultural products. He retired at age 71, concluding a career marked by leadership, professionalism, and deep community ties.
In 1965, Paul married the love of his life, Cherie LaFramboise, and together they shared 60 years of marriage. They raised two daughters: Anne Moneymaker and Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Bergevin. Paul was a devoted “Pape” to his grandchildren, Elise Moneymaker Delp (Treyden) and Paul Moneymaker.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cherie; his parents, Philemon and Marie Anne Bergevin; and his older siblings Lucette (Jim), Roland (Emile), Wilfred, and Marie (Warren). His parents, both born in Canada, settled in the Yakima Valley in the 1920s, where they raised their family.
In his younger years, Paul found great joy in playing town-team baseball, playing teams from all over Central Washington, as well as duck hunting and fishing in the Yakima River. Later in life, he enjoyed travelling the world with Cherie, weekly Bridge games, cooking with friends and family, and being a loving grandfather to his grandchildren.
Paul will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, warmth, and a life well lived.
