Pete was born on November 8, 1951, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Robert K. Orgill and Laverd E.Orgill. He was the fourth child in a large and loving family of eight children. Pete's family moved from Idaho to the Tri-Cities area and eventually onto the family farm in Grandview, Washington where Pete went to school and starred in athletics of all kinds. While Pete was in high school he met the love of his life, Glenda (Kearney) Orgill. Together they moved through life, going to college at Yakima Valley College and eventually Central Washington State College where they both graduated. They married on September 15, 1973 and were together as soul mates and friends for the rest of Pete's too short life.
Athletics would be a central part of Pete's life, as he was a great athlete and plaved baseball at both Yakima Valley College and Central Washington State College. During this time, he developed a great love for education and the game of baseball. He was a passionate educator, and as a coach he was driven to help kids learn to play the game and show them how dedication, commitment and being part of a team could help them in all aspects of their lives. Pete was the Head Baseball Coach at Davis High School in Yakima, Washington, for over a quarter- century. Through it all, his love for the game and his passion for helping kids touched many lives. Pete's players and students love him with a passion. Pete was honored in 2011 by being elected into the Washington State Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Pete and Glenda have two beautiful children, Peter Orgill and Katie Orgill Hinckley. Both Peter and Katie followed in their parents' footsteps and became teachers. Pete instilled in his children the values and work ethic that garnered him and his teams' success on the baseball field, and both Peter and Katie, who are successful coaches in their own right, continue to pass on to the next generation of students and athletes the values they learned from their dad. Pete was so proud of his children, not only because of their highly successful athletic careers, academic achievement, and professional success, but more so because of the type of people and parents that they have become.
In 2005, Pete and Glenda met a young man that touched their hearts, and Saby Martinez became a part of their family. From then on, Pete and Glenda had three children in their family. Aside from his family, Pete was most passionate about the health and wellness of his students and the entire community. Pete always said that he was a health teacher first and a baseball coach second. He began a campaign to teach the world about heart health, specifically CPR, and how to save a life. He spent countless hours training people, organizations, and the public in general. For many years, Pete led the annual CPR Blitz, at the Yakima Convention Center, where thousands of people were trained in life-saving procedures. Pete was more proud of the fact that he taught tens of thousands of people to save a life than of any of his accomplishments as a baseball coach.
