Phil was born to Curtis and Violet Hammond on April 1, 1943, in Yakima, WA, where he was raised along with three brothers. He served in the US Army from 1966 - 1968. After his discharge, he returned to Yakima where he began his career at Pacific Northwest Bell. In 1969 he married Linda. They divorced in 1986 but had remained close throughout his lifetime. In 1989, he was transferred to Vancouver, WA where he finished his career at AT&T. After 10 years there, he decided to move back to Yakima to be near his family. In 2013, he started spending winters in Sun City, AZ, where he moved full time in 2016. He moved back to Yakima in 2020.
Phil's favorite hobby was to buy, sell or trade just about anything. He used to say it was the thrill of the hunt and the excitement of getting a deal. Phil loved to move. He would never be happy in the same house for long. Shortly after moving to a new place, he would get bored and want to do it all again. He enjoyed spending time with his family every chance he got. He loved going out to breakfast, riding his bicycle, going for a drive up in the mountains, or just sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee and a cigarette.
Phil is survived by his brother Neil, sister-in-law Joanne, best friend Linda, stepson Bob, daughters Shelly and Sherry, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
Per Phil's wishes, there will be no services.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.keithandkeith.com for the Hammond family.
