

Dick attended grade school thru Jr. College in Yakima and the University of Washington. He started his career as a banker with Seattle First, and then was drafted 3 weeks before Pearl Harbor.
He met his bride to be, Lucetta Patricia Melby, in 1940 at the ice skating rink in Yakima. They married July 29, 1943 in Eagle Pass, Texas where Dick was training fighter pilots for the Air Force. They returned to Yakima in 1945 to the home he was raised in. They purchased an apple orchard in Cowiche where their 4 girls were born and raised. Dick and Lucetta retired in 1982 after many successful years in the apple orchard industry in the valley.
They purchased a power-boat and moved to LaConner, WA. Both of them had a passion and love of traveling on the waters of Washington and British Columbia and they fulfilled several dreams of European travel.
Dick started skiing at the age of 12 on skis his grandfather made for him. He was on the original board of the White Pass ski resort. He skied until after 80 years old. He was very active as a Boy Scout climbing the local mountains of Washington. He was a life member of First Presbyterian Church in Yakima, since the cornerstone was laid.
Dick is preceded in death by his sister Florence Walker Morris. He is survived by his wife of 73+ years, Lucetta, and their 4 daughters: Patti (Ken) Kroger of Yakima, Carolyn (Jim) Castino of Gig Harbor, Sarah (Jim) Voss of Ellensburg, and Gretchen (Bob) Shepherd of Everett; 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, at 11 am, Saturday, September 10, 2016.
