Ruth Roberts Zeigler, 99, died peacefully in her sleep on February 9, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma. Born on June 4, 1925, in Englewood, Colorado, Ruth was the fifth daughter of John Thomas and Mary Morse Roberts, and the last survivor of the Roberts children. She met her beloved husband, George Zeigler, at a USO dance in 1944, and married him on August 11, 1945. She remembered hearing the fireworks for V-J Day, while on honeymoon in a mountain cabin near Idaho Springs, Colorado. They were happily married for fifty-nine years.
Ruth made friends easily and fitted herself into church and civic communities in Littleton, Colorado, in Brantford, Ontario, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and finally in Yakima, Washington, where she was an active member of the Christian Women’s Club (Stonecroft Ministries).
In her later years, she moved to Norman, Oklahoma to be near her beloved granddaughter, Pennie Sandt, Pennie’s husband, Gary, and their daughter, Bria. Again, she made dear friends and warmed hearts.
She will be remembered for her game spirit, her mischievous sense of humor, her green thumb, especially with roses and African violets, and her profound faith.
Ruth is survived by daughters Rebecca Wilson and Anne Weaver; granddaughters Pennie Sandt, Debbie Reyer, and Jessica Thompson; grandsons Greg Engleman, Jeremy Engleman, and James Thompson; and great grandchildren, Bria Sandt, Zachary Reyer, and Gavin Reyer. She is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Her middle daughter, Barbara Engleman predeceased her.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held on 16 February, 2025 at 2pm in Oklahoma City, and a graveside service will be held 24 Feb 2025 at 1pm in Yakima, Washington. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Evangelism Explosion International.
