Much of Sally’s family, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, all worked for Great Northern Railroad. Sally’s mother was raised in Lester, a small railroad town in East King County. Uncle Auggie and his co-workers liked to say they worked for the railroad "When the box cars were made out of wood, and the men were made out of steel."
Sally graduated from West Seattle High School in 1957, having secured a job and a car long before graduation. She was active in women’s sports at ages 16-21, basketball and baseball. She said the ball was a regular baseball, not a softball. They played in the King County League, unaffiliated with the high school.
Sally had an extensive career in the bill collection business with Sears, Boeing Credit Union, a large collection agency, and a bank. Sally supervised up to 90 collection and file personnel.
Sally had a daughter from her first marriage in her 20’s. In 1970 she met Robert Allen, and they dated while he was earning his engineering degree at the University of Washington, and they married in 1976.
By the early 2000’s, Sally and her husband had acquired an interest in an apple and pear farm located in the Naches Heights region of the Yakima Valley. They moved from Seattle to Tieton, helped manage the farm up to the present, and never realized the retirement golden years.
Sally is survived by her husband of 48 years and two elderly cats, who miss her very much.
A funeral service will be held at Keith and Keith Funeral Home on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 12:00 pm for all who would like to attend. Burial with follow the service at West Hills Cemetery, again for all who wish to attend.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.keithandkeith.com for the Allen family.
