Sharrie spent her early childhood in the area of Wapato and Toppenish where she had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in the Bort, Brady and Darby families. In 1967, the family moved to Snohomish, Washington. Sharrie had a warm and fun loving personality and was quick to make friends. Sharrie loved sports and was a member of the Cheer squad at Snohomish High School. In 1969 Sharrie met the love of her life and future father of her children, Jeff Stevens. Jeff and Sharrie were inseparable all through high school. In 1973, the day after high school graduation, Sharrie and her family moved back to the Yakima Valley and settled in Sunnyside, Washington. She continued her education by attending Yakima Valley College. On May 4, 1974, Jeff and Sharrie were married and settled in Sunnyside. They began their family with the birth of their first child, Michael Stevens on February 10, 1978 and later added son, Timothy Stevens on June 12, 1981. Jeff and Sharrie met their lifelong friends Carol and Daryl James and Debbie and Richard Schneider living in the Sunnyside and Zillah area.
Sharrie loved spending time outdoors whether it be camping, boating traveling in the family RV and later spending time at the family cabin on the Naches River. Sharrie and Jeff also loved traveling and took trips to the Carribean, Mexico, and Maui. Sharrie spent most of her working career as a Para-Pro for the Sunnyside School District. She had a passion for helping children, especially tutoring children in Language Arts during her time at Pioneer Elementary School. Sharrie was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She loved baking and cooking and her home was always immaculate. Sadly in 2002, Jeff and Sharrie lost their youngest son, Tim, in an auto accident. The loss of her son left a huge hole in Sharrie’s heart and in her life. Shortly after losing Tim, their oldest son Mike married his wife, Amanda Bjur and they began their family. Sharrie’s heart was almost full again with the addition of her cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Greyson and Andrew.
Sharrie was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. She was able to continue working for a couple years before retiring from her profession. Sharrie fought cancer for almost 12 years before losing her battle.
