Sherri Suzanne Smith Lacour; born 8/27/1951 was born and spent her first three years in Monterey Park, CA and later moved to a dairy farm on the outskirts of Ephrata, WA where she spent her early years on her family’s dairy farm. Upon graduating from Ephrata High School in 1969, she continued her education at Washington State University where she received her degree in Clothing and Textiles. Upon leaving Washington State University, she pursed a career in retail as a manager and spent several years as a buyer at The Bon Marche in Seattle, later taking a similar position with Nordstrom (at Southcenter) in June 1974. In the late seventies Sherri left the retail field to pursue a career in the Life Insurance business and during which time she met her future husband Alan Lacour. The couple were married in February of 1984. Upon moving to Yakima she worked for Meyer, Fluegge and Tenney as a paralegal. In1992 her daughter Suzanne was born and her family became the focus of her life. In 1995 Sherri was diagnosed with MS yet in spite of the limitations this illness placed on her she never lost her love of life or family and often used the following quote to describe feelings about her illness.
“The following words are from an unknown author—What M.S. cannot do; M.S. is so limited. It cannot cripple Love. It cannot shatter Hope. It cannot corrode Faith. It cannot destroy Peace. It cannot kill Friendship. It cannot suppress Memories. It cannot silence Courage. It cannot invade the Soul. It cannot steal eternal Life. It cannot conquer the Spirit. “
Sherri spent every day of her life living it to the fullness in spite of her illness and even more so when she was recently diagnosed with cancer. She died surrounded by her family with love and the knowledge she would soon be in the hands of God and his infinite love.
Her loving parents Curt and Lucille Smith preceded Sherri in death. She is survived by her husband Alan R. Lacour and a daughter Suzanne Georgette Lacour both of Yakima and one brother, Greg Smith of Seattle. The family wish to express their gratitude to Memorial Home Health and Hospice Care for their wonderful support in Sherri’s last days.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Keith & Keith Terrace Heights Chapel. Concluding services and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
