It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen "Steve" Curtis Macke who died at home on June 4, 2025 at the age of 76 due to cardiac arrest. Steve was born on May 9, 1949 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. He lived in Pennsylvania before moving to Yakima at the age of 8. He attended Marquette High School and later Central Washington University. A black belt in Karate, Steve had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting and being in nature. He also had a profound love for animals. One of his favorite quotes by Chief Dan George, beautifully reflected his spirit: "If you talk to animals, they will talk to you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them, and what you do not know, you will fear. What one fears, one destroys." Steve was a devoted father, a loyal friend, and a respected insurance broker who served his clients and community with unwavering integrity for over 30 years. Known for his tireless work ethic, sharp mind and compassionate spirit, he took great pride in helping others protect what mattered most in their lives. His presence brought warmth and a sense of security, and his absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Steve is survived by his son David Macke; Gail Macke; his brothers, Tim (Lori) Macke and Dan (Yoli) Macke; and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Macke and his parents. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
