Theresa (Heintzman-Goetz) DeLaney passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of January 12, 2018 in Seattle, WA; two days after her 101st birthday. Theresa was born on January 10, 1917 to Joseph Heintzman and Magdalena Gisi in Onaka, South Dakota. The Great Depression pushed Theresa and her family west where they settled in the Yakima Valley. She married Lawrence Goetz in 1936 and moved to Seattle, WA where their first son, Wayne, was born. During World War II, Theresa and her family resided in San Diego, CA where Lawrence worked for Consolidated Aircraft, and Theresa took up hairdressing, and became a certified stylist. After the war, they returned to Yakima and had two additional sons, Larry and Don. Theresa continued to work as a hairstylist and eventually opened her own salon, becoming a successful businesswoman at a time when it was difficult for women to succeed in business. Lawrence died in 1973 and Theresa remarried in 1978 to John R. DeLaney. Theresa and John enjoyed traveling and spending time with their extended families until John’s passing in 1985. Theresa remained in Yakima for many years, devoting much of her time to her grandchildren and Holy Redeemer Parish. Theresa served on the local chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America until 2013, when she moved to the residences at Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle, WA. Theresa is survived by her younger sisters, Pauline Huggins of Huntington Beach, CA, and Rose Steed of San Diego, CA; her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Shirley of Manson, WA, Larry (Larry’s wife, Beverly, preceded Theresa in 2016) of Seattle, WA and Don and Susan of St. Thomas, VI; 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish in Yakima, WA on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10:00 am followed immediately by interment ceremonies at Calvary Cemetery and reception at Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. To share a memory of Theresa visit www.lepfuneralhome.com.
