Silent Night, Holy Night, All is calm, All is bright, Round yon virgin, Mother and child, Holy infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace. She so loved the season when Christmas came. It started after Thanksgiving was over, the baking, the decorating, shopping for all things that would make this Christmas season better than the one before. No one ever left without a gift made from the heart made special with you in mind at her Christmas celebrations. In fact she needed two kitchens to make this happen. So the grandkids gave the second kitchen the name of Candy Land.
Also will be remembered by her church family, she was active in her church, she and her husband started the church and have been involved in the ground floor plans since the start of Christian Worship Center in Zillah. Her leadership skills to create and coordinate all the social venues once the plan was put into place were a driving force for her. The hands of Vera with her direction and knowledge many enjoyed prepared dinners.
The youngest of eight children she learned her cooking skills from her mother.
Born September 1, 1935 Twisp, Washington to Aaron and Emma Johnson. After graduating from Mary Stone’s Beauty School, Seattle, Washington she worked 32 years as a Cosmetologist owning her own business until she retired. She married her second husband, LD Baughman in 1969, making their home in Zillah, WA to join a farming community. In addition to working the businesses she was a devoted mother of four children: LaDonna, Lester, MaLinda, Terry and five stepchildren Larry, Bob, Linda, Ken and Donna. Vera is predeceased in death by her husband LD in 2007; parents, Aaron in 1978 and Emma Johnson, in 1973; brothers, Clarence, Karl, Dave, Melvin and Dale; and son Lester in 1991.
Vera is survived by three children, LaDonna Bishop (John Bishop) of Mill Creek, WA; MaLinda Nystrom (Doug Nystrom) of Yakima, WA; Terry Howard (Lori Howard) of Selah, WA; stepchildren, Larry Baughman (Virginia Baughman) of Selah, WA; Bob Baughman (Dorothy Baughman) of Yakima, WA; Linda James (Lonnie James) of Yakima, WA; Donna Keeter of Moxee, WA; Ken Baughman (Nancy Baughman) of Woodbridge, VA; 21 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.
Vera so loved the outdoors, she loved the simplicity of just watching the sun come up and go down with watering her garden in between. A morning coffee to help smooth out the approach of the day to come. She would often tell you the time of day without looking at the clock as you sat outside in her company. Her sense of humor was priceless. The gift of her life will never be forgotten. Forever remembered at this Christmas, she shared her last Christmas celebration with family by her side December 19, 2017. We consider her passing a Christmas blessing.
A special blessing to the family at this time is mom’s caregiver Melissa Ramirez; she was an angel sent…
