Bill was the youngest of four children and spent his early years with his family at Fairbanks Creek, before moving into Fairbanks for school. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in those days and survived Polio. As long as anyone can remember he had a love for baseball and WWII history. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman in his earlier years.
Bill worked for many years in the grocery business. He started at the bottom, stocking shelves and cleaning, and over the years worked his way up to managing stores on his own. He also spent several years working at the telephone company in Fairbanks, where he met his wife Betsy whom he married in 1975.
Bill and Betsy spent their early married time traveling, starting in Alaska and driving their way across the country before stopping in Georgia due to weather. Soon after, they settled in Yakima where they remained for the last 40 years.
In recent years, Bill reconnected with many of his friends from the Fairbanks High School class of 1954, and he traveled to Alaska after many years outside to attend the 50th year class reunion. He stayed in contact with many of his friends since and often talked about the fun he had communicating with them.
Bill was outgoing and social, he could talk to anyone about anything. He lived at Good Samaritan in Yakima for the last six months and leaves behind a number of good new friends there.
Bill is survived by his son Shaun and daughter-in law Priscilla, his grandson Joseph Eagan, his sister Ellen McQuarrie and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank Eagan, his sister Doris Loudon and his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” Eagan who passed away earlier this year.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at Keith and Keith Funeral home on Friday, November 20, 2015, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Father Darell J. Mitchell of the Diocese of Yakima. William will be buried along with his wife Betsy at Calvary Cemetery.
