William Omer Eikenbary was born in Jennings, Oklahoma on April 26, 1919 and died in Shelton, Washington on June 20, 2011 at the age of 92. Dad met our mother in Hiwasse, Arkansas and they were married in Pineville, Arkansas on August 23, 1940. They were married for 65 years.
Dad served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930’s. He and Mom moved to the Yakima area in 1943 and worked in the fruit industry. Dad also worked in the Hanford area as a concrete laborer for a short time, but returned to orchard work as a ranch manager. After many years on the ranch Dad went to work for the US Fish and Wildlife Service. He said the job was more like play than work. Dad finished his working career with the Selah School District in the maintenance department.
For more than fifty years Dad has been an avid buyer and seller of antiques. He had a passion for things that were old and collectable. But what he enjoyed most about the business of antiques were the many friends he made. Dad was a kind person who hated no one and loved everyone. His Christian Faith was at the core of who he was and everything he did.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Dunnington and Son-in-Law David Dunnington. Son Bill Eikenbary and Daughter-in-Law Melody Eikenbary, ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, a sister Juanita Houston and brother Paul Houston both of Houston, Texas. Dad as preceded in death by his wife Nora, his parents, Zebulon and Alice Houston and his brothers and sister.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Keith & Keith Terrace Heights Chapel, with burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Keith & Keith Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
