Charles Arthur Stewart III (Tim), son of Charles Arthur Stewart Jr, and Louise Kidder died peacefully at Legacy Memory Care in Falmouth on December 10th, with his family by his side. Tim was born on October 16th, 1934 in Boston Mass, and grew up in Weston Mass. After graduating from Middlesex School, he went to Brown University. Upon completion of his sophomore year he married his childhood sweetheart, Howsie. He graduated from Brown University in 1958, then moved to Cherryfield, ME, where he worked for the family blueberry business, AL Stewart and Son’s. In 1961 they moved to Yarmouth, and continued working for the family business.
Tim spent years skiing at Sugarloaf with his wife and three daughters. Tennis became a passion and he then purchased the Tennis of Maine facility in Falmouth. In retirement he devoted his time to volunteering with the Portland Boys and Girls Club, the Yarmouth YMCA, and Opportunity Farm (Wayfinders School). Tim was also a member of the St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Yarmouth. Tim aspired to become a member of the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club in New England, and by the time he was 65 this feat was accomplished. When Tim was not climbing he spent most of his time in Freedom, New Hampshire looking across the lake at the mountains that he loved.
In October of 2014 The Stewart Center, an Adult Day Program for individuals with dementia and other cognitive abilities was opened in his honor. This had great meaning to Tim in his final years of life.
Tim is survived by his wife of 59 years Howsie Stewart; sister Mary Hockmeyer; brother Robert K. Stewart and his wife Janet; daughters: Rebecca Andreasson and her husband Richard Treseler, Polly Stewart Bradley, Hillary Stewart; daughter-in-law Sarah Stewart; grandchildren: Stephan Knight, Laura Andreasson, Adam Knight, Julia Andreasson, Camilla Reed, Cameron Reed, and Caroline Reed; several nieces and nephews, and his loving caregivers Claire, Kelly and Frankie. A special thank you to the staff at Legacy Memory Care in Falmouth.
A service in memory of Tim will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 8th, 2016 at the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth. A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at the Portland Country Club in Falmouth after the services. In lieu of flowers, donations to the below organizations would be greatly appreciated: Boys and Girls Club of Portland (277 Cumberland Avenue, Portland, Maine 04101), Casco Bay Regional YMCA in Freeport (14 Old South Freeport Road, Freeport, Maine, 04032), and the Stewart Center of Falmouth (74 Lunt Road, Falmouth, Maine 04105).
