1953 – 2018
NORTH YARMOUTH – Fredericka (Fish) Walsh, 64, died unexpectedly on October 23, 2018 at her residence. Fredericka “Fredi” was born in Amityville, Long Island on November 8, 1953, the daughter of Frederick A. and Bertha G. Fish, both since deceased.
A former resident of Fairfield, Connecticut, Fredi attended Roger Ludlowe High School. She worked as a Veterinary Technician for many years both in Connecticut and for the past 20 years at Gray-New Gloucester Animal Hospital here in Maine.
Fredi’s love for animals started at an early age “borrowing” neighbors’ pets when she could not yet have one of her own. It was not unusual for her parents to come home to a strange dog tied to the apple tree out back. That love exposed a natural gift with animals leading to a successful career. In addition to her work as a Vet Tech, Fredi had a natural talent as trainer of pets-- and their owners, and during her years in Connecticut she also worked as a professional dog groomer. She was always ready to help an animal in need of a home or a home in need of an animal.
A loyal Sports fan to her beloved Boston teams, Fredi enjoyed listening to Sports radio and could passionately defend her New England Patriots. She was an enthusiastic walker, whether with family, friends, her dogs, and lately with her goats in the lovely wooded paths her fiancé Jason created for her at home.
Fredi is survived by her fiancé, Jason Darling; her sisters, Sharon (Fish) Gartner and husband David, Helen (Fish) Kropitis and husband John, and Nellie (Fish) Poole; her nieces and nephews, David Gartner and spouse Kristie, Jennifer (Kropitis) Doms and husband George, Peter Gartner, and John Kropitis II and spouse Jennifer; and her 6 great nephews and 2 great nieces. Fredi was devoted to her cats, dogs, horses, and new found love – her goats.
She was predeceased by her husband Gary J. Walsh and brother-in-law Donald E. Poole. Fredi and Gary lived briefly in Farmington, Maine when first moving from Connecticut prior to living in North Yarmouth.
Fredi’s greatest joy was spending time with her fiancé Jason, her animals, and her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
