Ingrid Margareta Thomas

Freeport - Ingrid Margareta (Lind) Thomas passed away surrounded by her loving family in the early morning hours of December 27, 2025. Ingrid was born on January 20, 1936, in Örebro, Sweden, to Svea Viktoria (Normell) Lind and Erik Iver Wilhelm Lind.

Ingrid met her husband Henry in 1952 while he was in Sweden, and they married in 1958. For 73 years, they shared a devoted partnership. After living in Gardiner, Maine, the family settled in South Freeport, where Ingrid felt truly at home. Summers were spent on Moshier Island in Casco Bay.

Deeply involved in her community, Ingrid was an active member of the Freeport Women’s Club and the Castle Investment Club, volunteered at the Clothes Tree through Freeport Community Services, and was a devoted member of the South Freeport Church. She loved gardening, weaving on her loom, cooking, and especially baking with her daughters-in-law and grandchildren, filling the kitchen with warmth and laughter. She also enjoyed many years with the South Freeport Bridge Club. Ingrid was a certified elementary school teacher, having graduated from the Förskoleseminarium in Stockholm, Sweden. She frequently returned to Sweden with her family over the years.

Predeceased by her parents, sister-in-law Elizabeth, and brother Nils-Erik Lind, Ingrid is survived by her husband, Henry Carl Thomas; sister-in-law, Gunilla Lind; children, Micky and his wife Tina Thomas, Willie and his wife Jill Thomas, and John and his wife Stacie Thomas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, each carrying forward her kindness, strength, and generous spirit.

As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved without hesitation, making those she loved feel deeply known and cherished. Ingrid will be remembered not just for what she did, but for how she made people feel. Her life was defined by love, shown through quiet kindness, unwavering loyalty, and the everyday ways she cared for those around her.

A service will be held at 2:00 PM on January 10, 2026 at South Freeport Congregational Church.
