Justin Thomas Vosmus, 31, of Durham, died Wednesday October 17, 2018 of complications from a ruptured brain aneurysm with his family by his side. Justin was born on December 29, 1986 in Portland, Maine to Thomas and Rhonda Vosmus. He lived most of his life in Durham, Maine. He graduated from Brunswick High School, where he had a passion for sports, especially soccer. As an adult, he worked as a fisherman and landscaper, most recently as a sternman for Zach White on his lobster boat, Intuition.
Justin found value in hard work and working hard. But he also had a playful and joyful side and was often heard quoting a line from a George Strait song: “I ain’t here for a long time. I’m here for a good time.” He never met a stranger, always putting out his hand to those he met. Justin was open about the ups and downs in his life. He was always trying to do better, to pay it forward, and in that he is an example to us all.
A wonderful and loving father, Justin appreciated the joy of being a part of a very large family. He was most devoted to and passionate about his 4 children: Kory(11), Hunter(10), Elton(5), and Blair(2). He loved spending time and playing with his children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and sharing those passions with his children and extended family.
Justin is survived by his loving partner, Amber Crocker, whom he adored; sons Kory, Hunter, Elton and daughter Blair; his parents Rhonda and Tom, grandmother Linda Johnson, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who already miss him terribly. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Robert Fulton who helped him during the tough times; and the doctors, nurses and staff at Maine Medical Center’s Special Care Unit for their expert and loving care.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11am followed immediately by a reception and lunch at the First Parish Congregational Church in Pownal Center, ME. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to an educational fund for his children: contributions payable to Rhonda Vosmus c/o The Justin Thomas Vosmus Children’s Fund, 18 Lewis Street, Portland, Maine 04102.
