Lindquist Funeral Home
Chebeague Island, ME- Leroy (Roy) S. Jackson, 91, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023, with his wife by his side at the Island Commons on Chebeague Island. He was born in Flagstaff, Maine on July 8, 1931, a son of Leroy E. and Georgie (Wing) Jackson. The family moved to Wiscassett in 1944 when Flagstaff was flooded by the creation of Flagstaff Lake. Roy finished his schooling in Wiscasset and in 1952, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served four years as a helicopter mechanic with the 48th Air Rescue Sq. After leaving the service, Roy was employed by Central Maine Power (Wyman Station) Cousins Island. He was Head of Maintenance for many years, retiring in the 1990's. It was there that he met Suzanne Dyer. They were married on September 21,1985, at their home on Chebeague Island. Roy never stopped after retirement. He became Chebeague’s fixer of all things unfixable, he taught most of the Island children how to repair their bicycles, drive a tractor and stand on their heads. You could usually find plastic or furry mice in his pocket for children going by the house or on the transportation boat. He always had extra cash to pass to kids heading into Doughty's Market. Roy was active in the Island Fire Department and served as a fire Captain for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Polly Bachelder.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne of Chebeague; a sister, Marion Sherman of Smithfield; step-daughters, Terry York and (Gerry) of Orrs Island, Cindy Godin and (Larry) of Sabbatus and four grandchildren, Heidi Pomerleau of Bowdoin, Cory (Debra) of San Diego, CA., Kayla Krech (Niles) of West Gardiner, Bryan (Maggie) York of Cundy's Harbor; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
